Battery Energy Storage
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are a highly flexible technology that can be used to support a broad range of different energy management objectives. Installed Behind-the-Meter, on an individual site rather than connected to the wider distribution network, a BESS’s ability to store electricity for later use can be used to benefit a business in a number of ways, including:
- Site-wide resilience as an alternative to traditional UPS systems
- Cost reductions by charging the battery during off-peak periods and operating the site off battery during periods of peak grid demand and cost
- Generating new revenue streams by engaging with various grid balancing services with National Grid
- Maximising return on investment for on-site generation such as solar PV, storing excess power for later use rather than feeding it back to the grid
- Buffering high demand technologies such as rapid EV charging, preventing the risk of such installations exceeding a site’s available supply capacity or a project application being turned down by the area’s DNO
The major benefit of BESS is that it can provide a combination of these benefits simultaneously, with an intelligent energy management system ensuring that an automated process makes the decisions that best optimise energy use on a site and minimise costs.
VOEV provide full-service installations for battery energy storage projects, from initial site and feasibility surveys through to commissioning, maintenance and management.
